IHS Jane's at the 2013 IDEF exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey.
The new package - Kanatli Gudum Kiti (KGK) - leverages technology developed for the research organisation's Hassas Gudum Kiti (HGK), which is designed for use with 2,000 lb (907 kg) Mk 84 bombs. In many respects the HGK resembles Boeing's Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), and provides a similar capability. Featuring indigenously developed hardware and software algorithms, the system manoeuvres with four tail fins as opposed to the JDAM's three.
While the HGK was developed for the Mk 84, the new kit is optimised for use with Mk 82 and Mk 83 munitions. The spokesperson said the package provides significant improvements over the HGK, most noticeably through the addition of a mid-mounted wing for improved flight performance. Extensive software enhancements are also said to have been made.

The new unit is designed for use with the Turkish Air Force's F-4 and F-16 aircraft, and captive carriage trials are taking place on board both types.
For guidance, the KGK features an inertial navigation system and GPS, and TÜBITAK-SAGE claims the package has a circular error probable of 10 m.
When launched from an altitude of 30,000 ft, the KGK is able to work to its maximum range of 65 n miles (120.5 km). Impact angles of between 10° and 80° can be selected.
According to the spokesperson, the development schedule will depend on the air force's requirements and, ultimately, production of the kit will be carried out by Aselsan.
