18 Aralık 1972'de bir Boeing B-52D kuyruk topçusu Başçavuş Samuel O. Turner, .50 kalibrelik makineli tüfek ile Hanoi yakınlarında bir Vietnam Mig-21 uçağını vurarak düşürmüştü. Altı gün sonra, başka bir B-52 topçu Airman birinci sınıf Albert E. Moore, Thai Nguyen demiryolu yakınlarında ikinci MiG-21 uçağını vurarak düşürdü.

01/11/64. Boeing test pilotu "Chuck" Fisher ve onun üç kişilik mürettebatı; New Mexico'daki Sangre de Christo Dağları üzerinde, 14.000 ft irtifada test ettikleri B-52H Stratofortress uçağının kuyruğu parçalandı. Onların görevi; yüksek hızda ve düşük irtifalarda uçağın yapısal bütünlüğünü kontrol etmek için üzerindeki sensör verilerini kaydetmekti. Uçak başarıyla yere indi ve uçağın güvenirliği kanıtlanmış oldu.
