Otokar'ın Altay Prototipi İçin Motor SiparişiTurkish vehicle manufacturer Otokar has placed an order through MTU Friedrichshafen to supply four Euro-Powerpack engine assemblies for its future Turkish main battle tank “Altay” prototypes. At the heart of the latest version of the Euro-Powerpack is the MTU MT 883 engine with common rail injection technology which delivers 1,100 kW of power in this application. As well as the engine, the Powerpack also includes the cooling and air filtration plants. The unit’s outstanding superiority in terms of compactness and power-to-weight performance has been achieved through high-level integration and unique component configuration. The Euro-Powerpack was developed by MTU to power current second and third generation Western battle tanks such as the French “Leclerc tropicalisée” and the South Korean “K2 Black Panther”. “MTU and its Euro-Powerpack with the MT 883 engine set the benchmark in modern drive technology for heavy military vehicles as this order demonstrates yet again,” said Knut Müller, Vice-President Defense at MTU Friedrichshafen.
MTU 883 1100Kw Engines will power the initial two batches (504 units) of Altay main battle tank
The projected Turkish “Altay” tank is a new development by the Otokar company which is the leading land systems manufacturer of Turkey. “We are keen to cooperate with powerful and experienced sub-contractors in order to attain the result befitting our country. We believe MTU is the correct party for this project with its technology, expertise, and customer-oriented approach,” said Serdar Gorguc, Otokar General Manager, at the signing of the contract at Otokar plant.
Altay's advanced MT 883 engines save crucial space and weight when compared to older generation 873 variant installed on Greece's Leopard 2HEL main battle tanks.
